Couples Therapy for Pre-Marital and Married Couples
I find that one of the greatest paradoxes of humanity is that our longing for intimate connection with others often leads to painful repetition.
Painful repetition may lead to dysfunctional cycles that sabotage our efforts.
Relationships don’t come with a guidebook, but fortunately we now have over 40 years of research by John Gottman, Ph.D., to help us navigate this terrain.
Dr. Gottman’s research has illuminated patterns in relationships that bode well for longevity and stability, and ones that lead to divorce. Furthermore, his techniques can be used with couples of any sexual orientation, racial, cultural, or economic background.
Whether you are trying to figure out if your partner is the right one for you, preparing for marriage, looking to relate in new ways, repairing after infidelity, or amicably breaking up and sharing custody of your children, Gottman Method Couples Therapy may help you and your partner:
- Deepen friendship and intimacy
- Remain calm during conflicts
- Discuss disagreements productively
- Appreciate the strengths you share as a couple
While I have completed the third level of Practicum Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, I understand that your relationship goals are unique and that you may benefit from other interventions as well. Therefore, I also utilize techniques from other types of couples therapy, such as Imago Therapy and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, to tailor a customized approach for your relationship.
